Modesto Police Department responsibilities are divided between three major divisions: Support Division, Operations Division and the Investigative Services Division.

Also in the Support Division are Administrative Services (Animal Control, Parking Enforcement, Permits), and Youth Services (DARE, PAL, School Police Officers).

The Operations Division is the 24-hour Police Patrol Force and Area Offices.

Looking for information about K-9s? Wondering where you should address a letter, expressing thanks for a patrol officer's extra effort? Have an interest in the Equestrian Team? The Operations Division is where you'll find information about Patrol (Police Officers, Community Service Officers).  The Traffic Division (Motorcycle Officers), our award-winning K-9 Unit, and equally well-known Equestrian Team, may all be found in the Operations Division.  Officers assigned to the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force are also assigned here.  Crime Prevention is handled here.

The Investigative Services Division is the investigative arm of the Police Department,  with several units:

Most investigations are handled by this Division. Officers assigned to the Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency also work under the Investigative Services Division.
