CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (C.P.T.E.D.)
CPTED is the use of design to eliminate
or reduce criminal behavior while at the same time encouraging
people to "keep an eye out" for each other. The key principles are:
Natural Surveillance, Access Control, Territoriality, Maintenance
and Active Support.
Minimum CPTED requirements for Crime Free certification:

Eye viewers in all front doors

Dead bolts with 1" throw bolt on all exterior
doors

Three-inch screws in dead-bolt strike plates
-
Lift and slide protection on windows and sliding
doors - pin or screw
-
Adequate security lighting - unit entrance,
walkways, parking areas, perimeter
-
Properly trimmed landscaping - tree canopies
trimmed up 7' and shrubs trimmed down to 36"
